Kindergarten Information

August 2020

Dear Families,

I am looking forward to an exciting year getting to know your child during Kindergarten Orientation. Beginning on September 14, school hours will be 9:00-3:30. If you have general questions about policies and procedures at Paul School this year, please refer to the Paul School Reopening Plan on our school’s website: www.sau101.org.

We will provide a communication folder and school supplies. Please send your child to school every day with a backpack (the communication folder should be kept inside), a lunch box (for lunch and/or snack), and a reusable water bottle labeled with your child’s name. Our water fountains will be closed this year, but we do have a fill station for water bottles.

Here are a few notes that you will need to know this year. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Arrival

On our first day of school, September 14, children must be dropped off in the drop off lane in front of the flag pole or take the bus to school. Students may enter the building at 8:45. Please make sure your child arrives on time so as to not miss important morning routines. The bell will ring at 9:00, and all students should be in our room by then, ready to begin our day.

Breakfast

If your child will eat breakfast at school, he/she will be directed to the lunchroom. School staff will be on duty to help children find their way. Students will pick up breakfast to eat in the classroom. Anyone not eating breakfast at school will come directly to our classroom. You may set up an account instead of sending in money for breakfast and hot lunch if you’d prefer. For more information, please visit our website.

Bus Routes

Bus routes will be posted on our website as soon as transportation details are finalized. Please e-mail me your child’s dismissal plans before the first day of school. You may also let me know if your child will be a parent pick up. It is helpful for me to know who else has permission to pick up your child. Please note that your child will need to wear a mask when getting on the bus, during the bus ride to/from school, and when getting off the bus.

Communication Folder

Your child will bring home a folder on the first day of school. Please keep it in your child’s backpack so it can be returned every day. Please check the folder every night for important information. If there are notices that need to be filled out and returned, please do so as soon as possible. Money for breakfast and/or lunch can be placed in this folder in an envelope labeled with your child’s name, my name, and whether the money is for breakfast or lunch. We will check this folder every morning. Please do not put money in your child’s lunch box.

Contacting Me

Contacting me via e-mail (Meghan.libby@sau101.org) or Class Dojo are the best ways to reach me. You should have received an invitation to ClassDojo either through email or text message.

Dismissal

Dismissal is at 3:30 this year. Please be patient if you are picking up your child, especially during the first week or so of school. We may ask to see identification if you (or someone else who has your permission) are picking up your child. This is to ensure everyone’s safety. Thank you for understanding. If there is a change to your child’s dismissal plans, you must notify the office by 2:30. If we do not receive a note from you in the morning or a phone call from the front office, we must follow your child’s usual plans. We cannot guarantee that we will have a chance to check e-mail during the day, so please refrain from relying on e-mail to communicate changes in dismissal plans.

Extra Clothes

Please send in an extra set of clothes (underwear, shirt, pants, and socks) for your child to keep in his/her backpack. This will reduce any anxiety of changing clothes if an accident occurs. Please keep these items in a plastic bag so we may use it to put soiled clothes into, if needed. Our school nurse, Mrs. Wunderlich, will not be able to provide any clothing to students this year.

Integrated Arts (IAs)

We will have IAs for 45 minutes on a rotating schedule. I will send home an IA schedule on the first day of school. On days when we have PE, please make sure your child wears or brings sneakers.

Lunch Money

As noted above, if you are sending in money for breakfast or lunch, please place it (cash or a check written to Paul School) in an envelope labeled with your child’s name, my name, and whether the money is for breakfast or lunch. You may also create an account by visiting our school’s webpage.

Snack

We encourage you to send in a healthy snack and a drink for your child to enjoy in the afternoons. Due to potential food allergies or restrictions, we do not allow children to share their snacks. I will check with the office about whether we’re allowing special birthday treats for the class to be sent in this year.

I am looking forward to getting to know your family this year, as well as seeing all of the wonderful things your child can do. Have a great rest of your summer! Please do not hesitate to contact me anytime. I am excited to work together to help your child have a successful year.

Take care,

Meghan Libby
